Where did the time go?! I do not know about you, but I cannot believe that we have just entered into a new decade. At the start of a new year, there seems to always be a sense of newness and freshness in the air. Along with a new and fresh vision for 2020. Yet with not just a new year in front of us, but a new decade it seems like those feelings have been taken up a few notches.
For me, 2020 signifies so many things. It marks that it has been 20 years since I graduated from high school. It also will mark that my husband, Eric, and I would have been in a relationship longer than we would have been apart. I know if you take a moment, you can also come up with so many milestones that will be marked in the year to come.
As we all look to 2020, it is so important that we not just look at it as a fresh start, something new, and milestones to reach. You should also seek to have 20/20 vision. With 20/20 vision for 2020, you can enter and walk through 2020 with clarity, purpose, and focus. With these three easy steps, you can both seek and maintain 20/20 vision for 2020.
For Clear Vision for 2020, Start With Prayer
Seeking God first is something we should do not just when we need clear vision and direction, but in all things. Prayer should always be a critical part of not just our faith, but also our daily lives. There is so much in life that we cannot see or do not know. By seeking God in both prayer and by reading His Word, we can get the clarity and vision we are seeking. While also gaining the guidance and direction we need to walk it out.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
God can and will reveal so much to us, if we are willing to seek Him first. Both in the setting of our plans and goals, but also in walking them out.
I can remember when I first got the idea of starting this blog. I had so many ideas, plans, and a vision for it. After I went off to the races trying to make them all work, before long became overwhelmed. Then when my husband saw that I was overwhelmed, he told me to pray and what a difference it made. Once I started to pray and seek what God wanted me write about and to do with the blog, I was able to get a clear vision.
The vision I had for this blog when I started and the vision for 2020 are worlds apart. The current vision is clear, focused, and filled with purpose because I sought God first. Seeking God is the first and most purposeful way to seek 20/20 vision for 2020. Now that you have prayed and got clarity on your vision, plans, and goals, what do you do?
Then Write Your Vision For 2020 Down
It is so important to not just have clear vision and goals, but to also write them down.
This is not just fun, but an important part in seeking and maintaining 20/20 vision for 2020.
Write the vision and make it plain on tablets,
that he may run who reads it.
Habakkuk 2:2 (NKJV)
By writing it down it sets it firmly in our minds and hearts. It also prevents us from forgetting. I know for me I can be really focused in January, but as time passes and life happens I can lose focus. Therefore making writing our vision, plans, and goals for 2020 down so important.
This can also be done in two very fun, easy, and different ways. One is to write them down on a goal sheet. This is one of my favorite ways to have everything written down in one place that I can come back to often. And in order to do that in a cute and practical way, I created the goal sheet you can find here.
Another way I love and I have done with my husband, is to create a vision board. This allows your vision to be a lot more visual and can be so inspiring.
I actually have three of these. One for me personally because there are goals and vision I have for myself. Then I have two that I had created with my husband for our family and our marriage. God has so many plans and purposes for our lives as women, wives, and moms. So it is important that we are clear on the vision for them all.
I would encourage you to do both. (And if you need a little help or encouragement creating your own vision board, check this out and I got you covered ). Both the goal sheet and the vision board allow you to see your goals and vision you have for your life in different ways. While also giving you a visual to keep you focused on what God has revealed to you and what is ahead of you.
Now Do Not Forget To Stay Committed To Putting In The Work
Now that you have sought God for clear vision and you have written them down. It is time to do the most important part, put in the work. This part can often be the hardest because it takes the most time and effort, but when supported by the first two steps it can be done.
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good.
At just the right times we will reap a harvest
of blessing if we don’t give up.
Galatian 6:9 (NLT)
We will face obstacles, setbacks, and failures. Yet if we stay committed to prayer, revisiting our goals, and knowing it will take work. We will also experience triumph, growth, and many wins. Following God and the plans and purposes, He has for our lives may not be easy, but it will be worth it.
So I encourage you as we look to the year ahead, to remember that in order to have and maintain 20/20 vision for 2020 we have to seek God first, write it down, and put in the work.
I’d love to hear one of your goals for 2020 in the comments!

I love taking the time to really focus on the goals and plans ahead. If we don’t write them down, they don’t happen! Most of the time for me anyway!

These are such good tips for 20/20 vision for 2020; I just started a vision board. It feels kinda funny, but I am going to try it. I know it works. I love your planner. it is so cute. I bet it will be a great organization tool for the year. Happy New Year!

I hear you! I can’t believe we have entered a new decade 🙂 Thinking of where life was 10 years ago is really something to look back on – and focusing on 2020 goals is so important too. I haven’t dug into all my goals yet (only work goals) so you’ve inspired me to focus on more goal setting this weekend. Super cute goal setting sheet by the way!

We have to put forth effort, and in the end, God will bless our efforts in His will. It’s so comforting to know He cares for us! I appreciate you sharing the story about your blog and praying over what the Lord would have you to share.

Definitely see the importance in writing down the goals and vision for 2020. I look at the goals I wrote in the past and it is evident to see how God has moved in my life.

Yes, I love your advice about starting with prayer. It’s so important that our goals line up with God’s plan for our lives. I haven’t created a vision board yet, but I think I’m going to give it a try – it seems like a good way to visualize goals.
