Having a schedule and routine is so important. As wives and mothers, we have so much on our plates on a daily basis. Without some careful planning and a routine, we could often find ourselves at the end of every day wondering where did the day go and frustrated that we did not get anything we needed to do accomplish.
Now understand that no amount of planning can totally eliminate that from happing every once in a while, sorry girl. Yet, if you find yourself feeling that way more often than not, then it’s time for some changes. Tidying up your routine is just as important as tidying up your home. While tidying up my home, I discovered 3 ways that can help you tidy up your routine as well.
1) Embrace The Season You Are In
I remember when my hubby, Eric, and I had just got married. We were always on the go. If we were not working, we were always going some place or trying something new. Then when our oldest daughter was born, we slowed down a little, but were still on the go a lot. She was such an easygoing baby that we could take her pretty much anywhere and we did. Then when our twins were born, we slowed down a lot because it was not easy to be on the go with a toddler and two infants. Now that our girls are older, we are on the go a lot more, but for totally different reasons.
Now instead of running around doing things that are focused on just us, we do things focused on our family. Making these adjustments has not always been easy. Yet learning to embrace the changes were necessary based on the season we are in have made it easier.
To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (AMPC)
We all go through seasons in life when our focus needs to be on one area more than another. During those times we need to make sure that our routines are reflecting the season we are in, not the former. Just like we need to go through our closets and find those clothes that no longer fit our bodies or our lifestyle, we need to do the same thing with things in our routine.
2) Tidy Up Your Routine By Embracing The Value of Your Time
Your time is so valuable. Time is one of those things that once it’s gone it’s gone, so we should use it wisely.
Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthy and accurately, not as unwise and witless, but as wise, making the very most of the time because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16 (AMPC)
So taking a close look at how you spend your time is also important when seeking to tidy up your routine. One of the best ways I have found to make sure I am using my time wisely is with time blocking. Making sure you are using all your time wisely and doing things that are important to you is a great way to tidy up your routine. If you have never tried time blocking, haven’t done it in a while, or just want a cute printable to get you started, just head here.
3) Embrace Today
Today is today for a reason, so make it count.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
Proverbs 27:1 (ESV)
Since we are not guaranteed tomorrow, we have to embrace today. As a person who loves to plan, I’ve often found myself planning so much for tomorrow that I was not taking the time to enjoy today. So as we continue to tidy up our routines, let’s make sure we are taking the time to enjoy life every day. When was the last time you had pajama day with your kids? When was the last time you snuggled up on your couch to read a good book? Or when was the last time you and your hubby had a date night?
It is so easy for us to get caught up in our routines that we forget to make sure our routines are actually working for us. So taking the time to tidy up your routine is so important. Embracing the season you are in, embracing the value of your time, and embracing today are 3 simple ways to help you do just that.
I’d love to hear one way you can tidy up your routine in the comments!

I have been meditating and taking life a little slow … enjoying work when I do it and then taking time off to enjoy real life too. Loved your tips. Especially #3

Enjoying your work while also taking time off to enjoy life is so important, Tanvi. 💕
I’ve been working hard on embracing my “todays” this year, and it’s truly changed my perspective on life!
Embracing today is something that I have had to do, Corey, and from time to time I have to remind myself to do it as well. 💕
I think embracing your time and the value of it is soooooo important for these kinds of routines; it’s the only real way the become a routine for me is if I don’t manage and value it!
HI AYANNA,
WOW! YOUR ‘FLAVOR’ TODAY ABOUT TIDYING UP YOUR ROUTINE SOUNDS GREAT! I FEEL I HAVE BEEN BUMBLING ALONG FOR MONTHS, SO THIS WAS A GREAT INSPIRATION TO ME TO GET MORE ORGANIZED.
I FEEL I AM A PRETTY ORGANIZED PERSON, BUT FROM WHAT YOU’VE SAID & OTHERS’ COMMENTS, IT
SEEMS MAYBE I’M NOT! HA! BUT AS THE COMMENTS GO, I GUESS I’M NOT ALONE IN THAT DEPARTMENT.
THANKS FOR SHARING
My business could not survive without a consistent routine! Sometimes it’s hard to set time just to schedule my time, but it’s always worth it!
I know how you feel, Miranda. At times I dread the time I have to sit down a plan my week, meals and grocery shopping, but I know I would be lost if I didn;t take the time.
I loved all of these points. 🙂 I thrive on routine. My 2-year-old and 6-month-old are growing and changing so quickly that our routine is constantly changing. I love using my Mom On The Go Planner to keep me on track. 🙂
Such a great post! It’s so easy to get caught up in routines, but you are totally right, if the routine isn’t working change it up!
Great tips & reminders that we should be using our time wisely….and for his glory!
Embracing the season is huge! It took me a while with my first born to really appreciate that idea. My children have had some very interesting seasons, and I know they will have more, but that is how they grow and learn. All I can do is meet them where they are and be their mom.
Yes, Meredith! All you can do is be the best mom you can and love your kids where they are. It took me a while with my oldest as well, and then the twins definitely made it a little hard. But the memories created and the moments we take to embrace them are priceless. ?
So true! Everyday does count and it’s so easy to forget that. Thanks for sharing!
Everyday definitely counts, Amberly. It is so easy to forget and we all need a little reminder from time to time to not to. ?
This is such great advice! It can be so easy to go go go that we can forget to slow down and think about what’s really important!
This is wonderful! I have 4 children and I always feel that I’m always left behind. This is a very good tool I could start using! Thanks so much Victoria! 🙂
I can totally understand where you are coming from, Joy. Making sure your 4 kids have what they need and are taken care definitely takes a lot. But as moms, we have to make sure we put ourselves on the list too. There are days when our needs are put last because life happens, but making sure that’s the exception and not the rule is key. ?
Love this post! Great advice here.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Jessica. ?
Protecting your time is so important! We don’t have kids so I’m constantly checking in with myself to avoid overworking.
Making sure you are not overworking yourself is so important, Jen. We all have to make sure, whether we have kids or not, that we are not overworking or overwhelming ourselves. Then also taking the time we need to just be still. ?
So true! I love the idea about working with the season, not against it. Turning our attention from ourselves to our family can be an adjustment.
These are simple tips but can make such a huge difference every day. Sometimes, I look back and always think of how I could’ve spent my time more wisely or handled a day differently. But I love that it makes me look forward to improving my routines every day.
Our time is so important! I love the Bible verses that you added to this post. They fit perfectly!
Sincerely Miss J
I really enjoy your posts. I like finding others who care as much about organizing as I do. Embracing today is something i need to work on personally. What a great reminder!
Thanks so much, Victoria. Great mamas think alike! ?
GREAT post today! I love that word, embrace. It reminds me of my mission to be intentional as a Wife, Mom, and Christian this year. I will embrace each of these 3. Thank you!
Thanks, Shan, and that’s an awesome mission for the year. That is definitely something that we all should have as a mission while embracing all God has for us. ?
This is a great post, Ayanna! Thanks for sharing.
With my days a chaotic mess. I have found it helpful to say “ok, I have one hour to work on social media”. “I have 15 minutes to clean” LOL! Great tips about celebrating the season. I try to cherish the boys at the stage they are in and give them the time they need when they get home.
I love the idea of “embracing”. Embracing today is something I sometimes forget to do regularly. Your family is gorgeous, by the way!
Although I may not be your age target audience, I love this post. I recently retired and am struggling with feeling like I need to be productive all the time. I will try this embrace the season I’m in because time is precious. Thank you for these wonderful words.
If you read it, loved it, and it spoke to you, Cindy, that you were definitely my target audience. ? We all at different seasons in our lives need to tidy up our routine in one way or another. Being retired is definitely a huge change for you and I can totally understand your feelings. Yet, you trying to really embrace this season of your life is the perfect way to help you overcome those feelings. You now have to time and opportunity to do things you couldn’t do while working. While still remembering the fact that you have retired means you have worked long enough to do so, so taking a little time regularly to just be still is ok too. ?
I love these tips. I started blogging about 6 months ago and have been discouraged with my views but then have just had to step back and realize that I only have 3 hours a day to work on everything so I can’t expect to have the same results as people who have more money and time.
You are definitely not alone, Anne. Everyone’s path is going to be different and being more intentional about the time you do spend is so important. I started feeling the same way and my husband had to remind of that. And comparing yourself to someone else will only leave you on the losing end. Always remember slow growth is still growth! ?
These are wise words. I especially celebrate enjoying the season of life you are in at the time. During many seasons it seems this will go on forever, but it doesn’t and when you look back there is a sadness about how quickly time flies by.
So true, Tamara. I have also looked back at different seasons of life and wished I had done things differently. Embracing the season your in allows you to you your time in it wisely and hopefully get through it with no regrets. ?
This is so on point Ayanna! I think too often it can be difficult to forget that life happens in seasons and things aren’t permanent and that our time is valuable! Love this!
Embracing the season you are in is so important. I think it was the hardest “transitio when my daughter was born.
I definitely can agree with you there, Davi. Having kids is a real game changer in so many areas of our lives. Remembering that the time you have now with her will never happen again helps you to alter your perspective a little. ?
Great tips! Really helpful advice to take on board, I know a few people who also need to give this a read!
Thanks, Kim, and you know sharing is caring. ?
Hey girl. I just found your post on Pinterest. I am so happy I did I love your blog and now a fan.
“Today is today for a reason, so make it count” I love that line! I think we can all use this advice.
Great reminder to use time wisely and be in the moment. Too often we let life pass us by!
Such a lovely post! It’s so important to embrace and value the time that you have – it passes by far too quickly
Dani xx
That’s one thing I gotta learn how to do – make better use of the time
These are all great tips! I love the pictures to, they are so good!
Thanks so much, Courtney. ?
I think embracing the season is crucial. When we look around at how other people are living life, it can be easy to feel a need to take on more than you can really handle. Not everybody can make every food from scratch. Not everybody has the time to grow vegetables in their backyard. And not everybody is able to go out on dates once-a-week. That doesn’t make one lifestyle better than the other though.
So true, Lauren. Comparison will definitely leave you on the losing end every time. Embracing the season you are in allows you to make time for what you can and accept that things you can’t. While also allowing you to see that this season is not forever and there is joy in the journey. ?
This is a great post! I do not have kids yet and my husband and I are always up and out! The thought of slowing down sends me in a panic I am not very organized lol
