Setting goals for yourself, your marriage, your family, and even your career or business are so important. You often find yourself growing the most when you are working towards a goal. At times experiencing growth you did not expect and in ways you may not have experienced any other way. As you set different goals for the different areas of your life, do you also take the time to set spiritual goals?
Goals that help you grow in your faith and in your relationship with God. Spiritual goals or faith goals are often the most overlooked goals. However, they are the goals that truly matter the most because they have the ability to affect all the areas in your life and the other goals you set.
Growing in your faith and relationship with God is also one of the most important things you can do for your overall health and well-being.
For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.
1 Timothy 4:8 (AMPC)
To grow spiritually, yes it will take work on your part like with anything else in life. Yet, it does not have to be hard or something that you could not easily work into your everyday. So here are 5 spiritual goals you can set for yourself right now.
1) Make Daily Quiet A Spiritual Goal
This is often one of the faith goals we all know, but somehow can neglect the most. Life is busy and there is often very little free time in our days. Although this may be true, it is also true that we make time for what is important to us. So if you say your relationship with God and growing your faith is important to you, you have to make time for it.
Making daily quiet time a priority is a spiritual goal that is a lot easier to accomplish than you think. All you may need to do is set time on your calendar every day. Now I know that not everyone is a morning person, although I truly believe that becoming a morning person can be a game-changer for everyone. Your quiet time can be at any time in the day and does not have to be first in the morning.
You can add a few minutes to your morning bathroom routine, since for a lot of moms that may be the only alone time we get during the day to ourselves. Also if you travel to work, try turning off the radio and just drive quietly. Or try during the lull before bedtime. No matter what time you pick, making daily quiet time with God a priority is a must set goal.
2) Make Getting A Prayer Partner A Goal
There is so much power in prayer. Taking time to pray daily is definitely a goal we all should have. But why not take your prayer life to the next level and have others join you?
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Matthew 18:20 (KJV)
Whether you are able to get together physically, like my husband and I do daily before we go to bed when he is not traveling for work. Or over the phone or video chat, like I often do with one of my best friends who lives in another state or my husband when he is out of town for work.
No matter where you are physically, God will join you in the midst of your prayers. There is just something so special about sharing your heart and prayers with someone else. Someone whose love and care for you and God can encourage you. So do not hesitate, grab a prayer partner today and start growing your faith together.
3) Make Memorizing A Verse A Spiritual Goal
Growing your knowledge and understanding of God’s Word is important and should be a lifelong faith goal for us all. One of the most practical ways to do that other than just simply reading it is to start memorizing scripture as a part of your spiritual growth.
How you choose the verses, the number of verses you choose, and the time frame you give yourself to memorize them is totally up to you. I have found different lists of verses to memorize by simply searching on Pinterest. I have also memorized different verses that God laid on my heart or that I read during my daily quiet time.
No matter what the verse is or if you pick one verse every week or every month, it is a great spiritual goal that you can set today. It is also a great goal to share with your family and have you all memorize the same verse together.
4) Make Reading A Faith-Based Book, Other Than The Bible, A Goal
There is so much knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual growth that comes from reading the Bible. Yet, there is so much additional knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual growth that can come from reading other books as well. God still speaks through the words and lives of people today.
So taking the time to both enjoy and learn from the lives and testimonies of others is a great way for you to grow as a woman and in your faith. There are so many great options out there. I shared a few of my favorite books on a post here and also a few of my favorite devotional books on a post here. Taking time to learn and grow is a personal goal we all should have, so why not extend that to your spiritual goals.
5) Make Joining A Small Group or Bible Study Group A Spiritual Goal
Just like how there is so much power and growth that comes from you having a prayer partner, the same can be said when you join with other like-minded believers in a group.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)
I have found I have grown and been stretched the most when in small groups. The options available to you are endless. You can join a group for women, wives, or moms. I have been in all of these types of groups at different times and have also been able to gain some life long friends from them as well.
With technology, joining a faith-based small group is easier than ever before. So I encourage you if you are not already in a small group find one today whether at your local church or online. This is one spiritual goal that may take you outside of your comfort zone, but is so worth it.
Let today be the day you take the next step in your faith. Let today be the day you make daily quiet time with God a priority and pray with someone else. Make today the day you pick up a new book to read and find a verse to memorize. Make today the day to step outside of your comfort zone and join a group of like-minded believers as you take the steps you need to grow your faith and work towards achieving your spiritual goals.
I’d love to know what faith goals you have set for yourself this year in the comments!
