As wives and mothers, our lives are super busy and often times very loud. Some days from the minute we wake up to the moment we lay down at night, we are on the move. The busyness and noise in our lives can often be overwhelming. Finding the time to slow down, pray and have quiet time with God is essential.
Although we can pray anywhere and at any time, having a special place in our homes to pray is so important. No matter the size of your house, creating a prayer corner in your house is easier than you think.
We all need a space in our homes just for us to spend time with God. I remember when I finally committed to getting up early every morning to have my daily quiet time. I started by going into my daughters’ playroom in our basement and it worked for a while. However, I found myself often being distracted by their toys all over the place or too comfortable on the couch and nodding off.
Then I realized that in order for me to be truly focused on prayer and my time with God, I needed a space for just that.
But when you pray, go into your {most} private room, and closing, the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.
Matthew 6:6 (AMPC)
God wants us all to come to Him free of distractions. Having a prayer corner in your home allows you to do just that. It allows you to go to God in a place that you are comfortable in and look forward to going to. A space you have deemed sacred and set apart. Now, as much as I would love to have a full room for this very purpose, many of us may not have that luxury. So creating a prayer corner is the perfect way to give us the space we need within the space we have.
How To Create a Prayer Corner
This is the fun part.
- Find a corner in your house that you can claim as your own
-Remember the basement play room I was praying in, well I claimed a corner in the back and banned my girls from playing back there. ? - Get a comfy chair
-A chair that fits into your space, is comfortable to sit in, and you love. I found my chair at Marshall’s. The second I sat down in it I knew it was the one. - Small side table
- Your Bibles, journals, devotional books, pens, etc.
- Decorative storage box or basket
-This is to hold your Bibles, journals, devotional books, pens, etc. I use a file box I found at Staples. - Laptop Desk
-Remember this is a prayer corner, so having a desk there to write on is not really practical, but a laptop desk is. I found mine on Amazon, and it’s the perfect size for me to use when I am reading my Bible, writing in my journal, or writing in my Journal Bible. - Message Board
-This is for you to pin up scriptures, prayers, pictures, etc.
The best thing about creating a prayer corner in your home is that it can be done with things you probably already have in your home. Prayer is powerful and having quiet time with God is so important to your well-being. Nothing beats having your very own space in your home to nurture and grow your relationship with God.
I’d love to hear about how you have created your prayer corner
or war room in your home in the comments!

Ayanna, I have had a special place for prayer for a number of years now. Prayer doesn’t feel the same unless I’m in that special place. It is like God meets me there. I moved about 4 years ago and I carved out a place even though this place is smaller. I came across your site looking for a prayer kneeler or bench that would fit in a small space. I like to be on my knees and this will help me keep my posture. Thank you for such a wonderful ministry.

Thank you so much for stopping in and I hope you will not be a stranger, Vivian. Having that special place for you to just spend with God is so needed, even if it is small.
I love the idea of creating a space specifically for quiet prayer time. It’s so important to have those intentional moments.
That’s a great idea. I have a reading nook and a meditation corner. Having assigned nooks in the house helps the process.
I know families have whole room for prayer and quiet reflection. A corner would be what I could accomplish.
Having an entire room is awesome, Candy. Yet like most of us, space is limited, so finding a corner is something everyone can do. ?
Thank you, I love your post and I will create a prayer space.
That awesome, Iola!! ?
This is a wonderful post. I feel as though my mom has “prayer corners” in every spot of her house. I’m sure she would love to have a designated spot like this to pray and meditate.
What a great idea! I’ve never thought about creating a space just for prayer but it is so important.
I didn’t either before creating this one, Lindsey. And now no matter where we will live in the future, I will make sure to create my own space there too. ?
This is a great idea! I love the idea of a quiet, calm place to pray. Thanks for sharing!!
Having a quiet and calm place to pray and have quiet time is so important, Julie. ?
Such a great idea to dedicate a specific space for prayer! xo
Loved this! What a beautiful post! I really need to create a prayer corner and this post will serve me as guidance to the perfect praying corner! Thank you so much for this!
I need to make myself a prayer and devotional corner. I find myself trying to do devotionals and prayer in bed, and I often fall asleep or get distracted. (It’s sad) During this time in my life, I have been finding myself wanting to spend more time in quiet devotion and prayer. I, also, find it to be a great idea to have a little storage bin for my Bible, journals, and Sunday School book. I will definitely be pinning this to reference later.
What a great idea! Love the thought of having a prayer corner!

Thanks, Lauren.
Love that. Whether it’s a pray corner, or for meditation, reading or journalling, I think it’s important to have a space to do so.
I totally agree, Deryn. ?
This looks so nice! I am definitely inspired to create a quiet corner for myself in my home too!
That’s awesome, Vicki. ?
What a great idea! It’s nice to have a certain area to go to for quiet reflection and prayer.
Love this! We will be moving in the next couple of years, and I want to have a separate space for Bible study. Right now I have a bit of the kitchen table.
Making the best use of the space you have is so important, Robbi. ?
What a great idea! I feel like I do take time to deck, but I never create a space just for me and God. So cute!!
Thanks, Brittany. I used to do the same thing in different parts of my house. When the weather is nice, spending a little time early in the morning outside would be awesome. ?
Great post! I have a HUGE priority right now to have a space in my house that’s MINE (besides the laundry area or sink, haha!!) Something like this would be perfect!
I feel you, Christine. My family definitely feels like the kitchen is my space, but it’s not the same. As much as we love taking care of our families, we all need a little space just for us. ?
Ah this prayer corner post reminds me of a movie that I watched the other day. I think it’s called the war room?! If you haven’t seen it, you should!! You’ll see how similar the idea is to the movie 😉 <3
Such a beautiful idea! I’ll have to figure out where in my apartment to make it happen 🙂
This is so sweet! I love this post and the idea of a prayer corner, very original!
This is such a special idea. My mom has a similar set up in her house with a wall of crosses and a prayer box by our family bible, and it’s something I want to continue on one day when I have kids of my own!
This was such an interesting read! I’ve never thought of creating a prayer corner in my home before.
