I do not know about you, but there have been days when getting my daughters dressed in the morning has been a battle. As the mom of three girls, to say emotions and voices run high in my house is an understatement. Then when you combine that with the fact that none of us are ‘morning people’, the struggle is definitely real. I used to be able to pick out clothes for all my girls. Using a daily clothes organizer system that works for me.
However, now that they are older and have their own sense of style, that is no longer the case. So instead of arguing with them every morning, I created a solution to all of our daily battles that I know you are going to love for your kiddos as well. It’s a DIY kids’ daily clothes organizer.
For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace.
1 Corinthians 14:33 (NLT)
I crave order, and I felt every morning there was so much disorder and chaos. My girls would argue about who was wearing what and what they did not want to wear. The daily disorder and chaos was driving me crazy.
So in order for me to find peace in the mornings, I knew I need to create some order in their daily routine.
I remember when I initially started to brainstorm a solution for our what to wear daily battles. I found some items I liked, but never felt like the right fit. Then I realized I just needed to organize my girls’ outfits for the entire week in a simple and easy to use way.
Yet everything I found was too expensive. I don’t know about you, but the idea of spending $100+ dollars on something for my girls that I was not totally in love with was crazy. So like any mom when you find an idea you like but you don’t love, you DIY it to make it your own and do it a whole lot cheaper.
Making the DIY Kids Daily Clothes Organizer

For this super easy and inexpensive kids daily clothes organizer, all you need is:
- Hanging Shelf Organizer (I got mine from Walmart)
- Days of the Week Printable (I laminated mine, but printing on heavy cardstock will work just fine)
- Scissors
- Hole puncher
- String or yarn (I used yarn because that’s what I already had and it matched the organizer)
With only these five items, you are well on your way to solving a problem most of us moms deal with on a daily basis. All you have to do is cut out each of your days of the week from the printable. Punch holes in the top corners of each day and each shelf in the hanging shelf organizer. Then you take your string or yarn to attach each day to the top of each shelf in the hanging shelf organizer and you are done!
(Before you download, please remember that these printables are free and for your personal use only. They cannot be sold, distributed, or marketed for monetary gain in any way. Thanks for your cooperation!)
Now you know I love printables, so I just had to create one! Not only is it cute, but it can be used for any age, any gender, and for years to come. So click here for your copy of the Days of the Week Printable.
Using the DIY Kids Daily Clothes Organizer
This is the great part, actually using it. In my house, we fill up the organizer every Sunday before I start dinner. Sunday is our day to get ready for the next week. When it is time to pick clothes for the week, I take my phone with my weather app open and sit on the floor in their rooms while they pick their clothes. My job is to make sure the clothes they pick are weather appropriate, match, and that they don’t forget anything.
I cannot tell you how many times not having socks has caused a meltdown in the morning. ? Then at night while they are getting ready for the next day, they put the clothes they have already selected for that day on their dresser and we’re done!
Having the DIY kids daily clothes organizer has been a total game changer in my house. My girls get to exercise their independence, individuality, and fashion sense by picking out their own clothes for every day of the week. (Except for Sunday because hey, I’m their mom and I still like to dress my little ladies from time to time. ?) This typically results in drama free mornings, at least with regards to what they are going to wear. ?
I’d love to know how you plan on using your own DIY kids daily clothes organizer
for your kids in the comments!

I absolutely love this idea. For months I have been trying to find a way to organize my daughter’s clothes since she is still a little young to pick them out herself and this is perfect. I will definitely be sharing and trying this out.

AYANNA,
YOUR IDEA PERKED MY INTEREST, SO I READ ABOUT YOUR ORGANIZER. WOW, TOO SIMPLE! I HAVE TO SAY I HAD ONE OF THOSE ‘WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT’ MOMENTS! HA! MY KIDS ARE GROWN NOW, BUT WE ALSO HAD THOSE MOMENTS OF STALLING, NOT WANTING TO WAKE UP, ETC. AND OF COURSE THE CLOTHING ISSUE WAS AMONG THE PROBLEMS. WE DID THE PLANNING EACH NIGHT BEFORE THE
SCHOOL DAY. OOOHHHH, WHAT A HASSLE. I HAVE TO SAY YOU DID GIVE ME A CHUCKLE, AS I BELIEVE
YOU & YOUR HUSBAND HAVE MENTIONED WHAT IT MUST BE LIKE FOR HIM IN A HOUSE FULL OF GIRLS!
SO UPON READING THIS, I COULD JUST SEE HIM BANGING HIS HEAD & ONCE YOUR SYSTEM WAS IN PLACE, HE PROBABLY SAID, ‘WHAT HAPPENED? WHY AREN’T THE GIRLS SCREAMING, CRYING, ETC. IN THE MORNINGS ANYMORE?” AND AT THE SAME TIME THINKING, ‘WOW, THIS IS A GREAT IDEA YOU HAD
AYANNA!” A HIGH FIVE TOY OU & ALL OF YOUR ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS!

Thanks so much, Kathie! And yes my hubby is all for anything that keeps our mornings moving along without all the chaos.
This is a great idea versus me taking out clothes each night!
I need this!! Really! We are good about picking out clothes/socks/shoes at the beginning of the school year, but by the middle of the year it’s chaos in the morning.
Such a great idea! I bet it’s such a timesaver in the AM
Oh my goodness! This is so cute and so smart! I don’t yet have kids, but I’ll remember this because heck this would even be good for me! Lol so cute thanks for sharing!
What a smart idea to keep your kids organized!!
Lauren
That’s a smart way to save space and stay organized
I love this idea! I feel like I need to make one for myself.. the adult version haha! A little organization goes a long way and it’s good to show kids that. 🙂
Cheers, Sarah Camille
Oh, this is great!! I am definitely saving this for when my daughter gets her own room.
I love how these tips can help build independence in children. Thanks for sharing!
What a great way to stay organized! I love that it’s so kid friendly too!
This is a great idea! I’ll definitely have to try it when my son is older. And I love your writing style. Your smart use of emoticons made me lol!
Such a great idea! And what a time saver this can be! I think I need to do this for myself some weeks as an adult… 🙂
We just moved things around in my kids room and were thinking of new ways to organize! Great idea!
What a great way to help your girls develop some independence! I remember many a morning where we had tears and tantrums because either they didn’t like what I picked out, or what they wanted to wear was in the laundry. Choosing ahead of time takes away so much of that headache!
What a genius idea! I could use something like this now for myself! ?
I love this idea! Especially since my little guy likes to pick out his own clothes. If we do it together at the beginning of the week, I can make sure everything is weather-appropriate and appropriate for being out in public. 🙂
Not being able to find socks has prompted me to have meltdowns in the morning, too! ? This is a great organizer!
Me too, Erica. That and not having the ‘right’ socks. ?
This would be so handy for school day mornings! Thanks for sharing!
I definitely is, Julie! ?
This is brilliant! And I already have one of these organizers hanging in my kid’s closet.
This is SUCH a smart idea! I had to watch my little cousins for a week while they were in school and even in that short of time I was overwhelmed with the everyday tasks like getting them dressed. hah!
this is such a great idea, I need to do this for real. I am always trying to find something for them to wear the morning of school!
Three girls?! That’s legit my dream! Anyway your organizing ideas are brillant! Love it. Would you mind check out my page?
Love, Mimi
Thanks so much, Mimi. ?
I love this idea! This would have made life easier for my mom when I was younger!
I probably would have made both of your lives easier, Vicki. ?
This is SO smart!! Not only is it a great way to organize space, but I love what a time-saver this is. It also teaches kids to plan ahead and flex their independence, as you said.
What a fun way to get kids excited about organizing!
So smart!!!! I love this, especially for strong minded young woman! I know my daughter is adamant about being the one who picks out her clothes!
Mine too, Marina. So giving them the independence they want while still keeping everything in order, is so important.
