As a mom, it can often feel like you spend the majority of your time with your kids or doing something for your kids. When they are infants you are attending to their every need. Then as they get older and more independent, you attend to their needs and spend time with them in different ways.
You often go from spending most moments with them to sending them off to school. Then shuttling them from one activity to the next. Trying to find the balance between giving them the love and parenting they need with the independence that they crave.
The time we spend without kids is important and needed, yet not all the time we spend with our kids is the same. Just as in your marriage, you need to spend quality time and have date nights, you need that with your kids as well.
As a family, you need to spend quality family time and also one-on-one time. Your kids need to know and feel that spending time with them collectively and individually is important.
Children are a gift from the Lord:
they are a reward from him.
Psalms 127:3 (NLT)
Our kids are such a gift and a blessing. So as moms it is so important that our kids know we feel that way. Which is why spending one-on-one and family time with our kids is needed, but it is often easier said than done.
How To Prioritize Family Time
As a wife and mom of three girls, I know firsthand how busy life can be and how limited our time is. We all have so much on our plates on a daily basis that finding time to do all we want to do is not always. From finding time to do the self-care we need. To being the best wife we can be and nurturing our marriages. Then you throw being a mom in there and a career, your time is spent.
So in order to help us all make sure we are spending the quality time we need to with our kids, I created this family date night chart.
This is a great way to schedule both one-on-one time with your kids and family time. It makes sure no one is left out and can get everyone involved. This family date night chart is the perfect way to help you keep one-on-one with your kids and family time a priority.

I would recommend you print your family date chart on card stock. Or you can also laminate it, so you can use the same chart for years to come. Especially since life happens and not everything goes according to plan. So if you have to make some changes to it midyear, it is no problem.
Change Is Ok
Changes are an often occurrence in our family. Due to kids activities, my husband, Eric’s, work travel, and life, it is important that we are flexible. So remember that this is not written in stone and change is not always a bad thing. Eric and I have often switched dates with our girls because we wanted to do a particular thing with one that was only happening at a particular time.
This happened when I wanted to take a cooking class with my oldest. I was scheduled to go on a date that month with one of my twins that month. Therefore in order for us to make sure everyone got their date, Eric and I switched who we would go on a date with that month with no problems.
One of my favorite things about this family date chart is how excited my girls get about their upcoming dates. Sometimes Eric and I plan the entire date as a surprise and all they know is the date. Like with the cooking class for my oldest. While other times we ask them what they would like to do and we do that.
After a while of using the chart, you will notice that your kids will start to care less and less about what you are actually doing. They’ll start to care more and more about the fact that they are getting to spending quality time with you. Definitely a win-win!
So make sure if you have not yet, you print your copy of the family date chart here. Then get started on planning and creating memories that will last you and your kids a lifetime.
I’d love to know what is your favorite way to spend one-on-one time
with your kids in the comments!

Family date night is awesome. My 17 year old is so over hanging out with mom. I trick her every now and again to go o the movies with me. miss the good ol’ days when she was my shadow………
I remember those days as a teenager, Vanessa. But I also remember when hanging out with my mom became cool again.
That such a fun thing to do for your girls and an amazing way to spend time together
