Have you ever looked around and felt like you needed a refresh? Whether it is in your home because you are not loving your space? Or is it in your relationships? Your friendships are just not what they used to be or your marriage has become just routine? Or you may need a life refresh? Things have just become stagnant or not going in the direction you want them to?
You are not alone! I have been there and so many other women just like you have as well. A few months ago I said to myself I needed a refresh in all three of those areas. In my home, relationships, and marriage. So I did the only thing I knew to do, I went to work.
I started with myself because that is where all our real work should start anyway. During my quiet time and prayer time with God, I started seeking what a refreshed me would look like. Does she look different, walk different, or speak differently?
Then God reminded me that for all of us, to get the refreshment we seek it starts with Him.
True Refreshment Starts With God
He created us, so only He can truly give us the refreshment we need.
I’ll refresh tired bodies; I’ll restore tired souls.
Jeremiah 31:25
When you are tired and weary, we often resort to doing whatever we can to give ourselves a pick me up. You try rest, books, seeking help from others, and the list can go on and on. Yet, how often do you leave going to God as the last resort after you have done all you can do?
I know I do not always seek God first. I can be very independent, self-reliant, and wear my ‘Superwoman‘ cape with pride. However, all that independence, self-reliance, and the cape can get heavy as well. This can often lead me to feel weary and needing to be refreshed. I know I am not the only one.
That real rest and refreshment we are seeking cannot be found in something we can do or not do on our own. It is found when we seek God and rest in Him.
Spending time with God does not only refresh your life, body, and spirit, but also helps to encourage you along. Reassuring you that all the many hats you wear and the journey you are on has purpose. It may not be easy or without obstacles, but worth it. Allowing you to also see that needing to be refreshed it is not about getting a reboot, or starting over, but getting realignment.
Refreshment Is More About Realignment Than Rebooting
Realigned with God and our God-given purpose. We were all created uniquely beautiful to walk uniquely different paths. However, there are times when our lives do not look or feel so beautiful. Times when we wish our paths were less unique and easier to walk.
It is those times that we need to really seek God. Both for refreshment and to be reminded of the truths God has already given you.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:6 (ESV)
Life is a lot like a puzzle, that we only get a few pieces at a time and we never truly get to see the full picture. However, when we are putting together a puzzle and we do not know where a particular puzzle piece may fit, we do not just throw the puzzle away and get a new puzzle. We stay committed to working with the puzzle we have and see it until it is finished.
We have to do the same thing with our lives and the pieces we are given. Seeking God to guide our paths, refresh us when we get weary, and helps us to see where the pieces we are given fit.
It is so easy to get so overwhelmed in life and the many hats that we wear, that we become weary and lose focus. Yet, remembering that God is always there to not just listen and help, but to also give you the refreshment that you need. Helping you to not just face another day, but to thrive in it.
I’d love to know what area of your life you feel you need
a life refresh in today in the comments!

Ayanna, thank you for this reminder because my attitude need to be refreshed. Lately I’ve been going about my life with a sour attitude about the way things were unfolding at my job. I never stopped to seek God’s direction until I came across your posting. THANK YOU!

I’m so glad this was able to speak to you right when you needed it, Martha. Our lives and situations can definitely sour our attitudes and distract us from our focus on God.
I love your point that refreshment is more about realignment than rebooting…that really spoke to me where I am at right now!
I’m so glad, Carla. Realizing we often need more of a reboot then complete change.
Real refreshment comes by realigning with God and our God ordained purpose. Also resting in Him. Clearly stated in your post. Thanks for sharing.
Seeking God for realignment and direction is so important, Bisi.
