Whether it is the first of the year, the end of the year, or the seasons are changing; we are all often looking ahead. So many are looking either to make goals, check off goals, or looking to refine the goals we have already made. I know I am definitely one of those people. Often looking to make better choices ahead.
I love sitting down to write my goals for the year. It gives me something to look forward to and also something to work towards. The hopes, dreams, and goals we have for our lives are so important. Yet it is so important not to overlook today because the choices we make today affect tomorrow and have the ability to affect our entire lives.
In order to make sure we are making better choices daily for a better tomorrow, here are three things to always keep in mind to ensure you are making the best choices you can as you work towards living your best life.
1) There Is Power Your Choices
Whether we realize it or not, there is so much power in the ability to choose. It is in realizing and embracing that power that forces us to take our decisions more seriously. Both the big and the small decisions. They all have power and have the power to affect both our today and tomorrows.
When we do not realize the power of our choices, we will often either relinquish that power. Or we do not take the decisions we have to make daily seriously. I do not know about you, but the thought of relinquishing my power to anyone other than God scares me. Thus encouraging me to not just embrace the power, but to look at the decisions I make daily more seriously.
You deciding to go to the gym today, even when you are tired and pressed for time, empowers you today and strengthens your body for tomorrow. With something as simple as this, you are choosing to make self-care a priority and encouraging yourself to make better choices for your health and well-being.
Choices like this often have a domino effect because it is really hard to then eat an unhealthy meal after a good work out. See the power that one choice has on the choices that will follow!
2) Your Choices Should Have Purpose
This is so important and something that I have to often remind myself of. It is so easy to find yourself in the midst of the busyness of life and just making decisions that seem to keep things moving. Yet they may not have had any purpose or real reason. Or may seem like a good idea, but it may not be the best choice for you.
This is when we have to look at the goals we have and the things that are important to us in order for us to make the best decisions we can.
It can be something as simple as getting up early to have quiet time with God so we can draw closer to God and have a deeper understanding of His Word. Or sleeping in and relying only on the thoughts and words of others nurture our faith. The better choice is not always easy, especially when we are often so tired, but it has a greater purpose.
Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18a (NLT)
When we look at the purpose behind our choices, it can make the harder decisions easier to make. While also propelling us towards consistently making better choices in life daily.
3) Your Choices Will Have Consequences
If knowing your choices have power encourages you to make better choices. While embracing that your choices should have purpose pushes you forward. Then remembering that your choices have consequences will give you the pause you need to weigh those choices. This pause helps you to make the best decision you can because you have taken the consequences and the potential costs into account.
Not all consequences are bad, but all should be taken into account. Remembering that our choices have consequences also allows us to embrace the power of our choices and reflect on the purposes behind them.
Something a simple as whether I take to time to meal plan each week or not has the ability to negatively or positively affect my entire family. This one choice can mean my family has healthy, stress-free meals all week. Or it could mean I am stressed at 5 pm every evening and we are eating mostly takeout. In both situations, my family eats, yet the consequences of the different choices are drastically different.
As women, as wives, and as moms we make decisions every day that not only affects us, but also affect our families. In an effort to make better choices for all, we have to remember these three tips. Although we are not just going to stop there.
Over the next few weeks, we are going to dive into different areas of our lives and the choices we have to make. Together we are going to discover new ways to make better choices as we continue to strive to be the best women, wives, and moms we can be. Are you with me?!
I’d love the hear what area of your life you would like
to make better choices in the comments!

I appreciate the reminder of how much the choices we make affect our lives. This year, I’d like to make good health choices. I made some progress in 2019 and want to continue that.

Progress not perfection is something we all should embrace, Stacey.
Meal planning has been a big part of the choices that I’m working on this year. Just being intentional about planning means we then have the groceries in the house for the meals we plan to eat. That also means better meals with fewer calories rather than nachos for the 5th night in a row! 🙂
I know the feeling, Karen. It saves so much time and money grocery shooping too.
Thanks for sharing these tips! Very inspiring
Meal planning literally changes the course of my entire week!
I’m glad I am not the only one, Megan.
these are really great tips! It is so important to be mindful when making choices.
Being mindful of our choices and actions are so important, Angela.
Such an important reminder that the choices we make have consequences in the positive and the negative.
Yes they do, Vicky.
I will keep these in mind for sure. I always try to make wise choices and think them through.
Thinking things through is so important, Amber.
Thanks for sharing such an insightful post! It gave me a lot to think about and helped me to realize how even the smallest choices can affect my future in some way.
I am with you Ayanna. It all comes down to being intentional and handing over each of our choices to God to get the direction we need with each of these three things. Thanks for this wisdom!
Yes ma’am, Brittany! Give it all to God.
Thank you so much for the reminder that our choices do affect others. Even “little” things like meal-planning (such a perfect example). You’ve encouraged me to break out my planner today!
I’m so glad, Bailey! It is often the little things we don’t focus on that can have far-reaching effects we don’t even realize.
